Grief + Grace 🙏🏾

Hi, friends! Javon here.

I am an avid tweeter. Recently Jeff Chu (who is—among other things—a writer, teacher, and preacher) tweeted,

Text Reads: There is so much grief in the headlines—and there is so much grief that will never make the headlines. I'm reminded again how important it is to hold those we encounter with compassion, both for the things we know and the things we don't and can't know.

His words resonated deeply.

Grief abounds as the pandemic continues to loom, as the climate crisis continues to manifest in a variety of ways, and as we grapple with how to be in community with other human beings — locally and globally. As such, I believe it is so important that we show grace to one another and also to ourselves.

I invite you to take some time to think about what extending grace in the midst of grief might look like. What might it look like to extend grace to others? What might it look like to extend grace to yourself?

Further, as we are on the cusp of a new month and a new season, consider what it might take for you to move it from just a thought to an intentional practice. What might you need to make it happen? How can you hold yourself accountable or recenter yourself when things get tough?

Here’s a song about grace (aptly titled Grace lol) from an artist I love that might help you as you contemplate and are moved to implement: Grace by Shelea

Hope this resonates. Hope to hear from you soon. đź’ś
