Today we celebrate All Saints Day by recognizing and sharing stories about the everyday saints in our lives and their impact on our faith formation, theologies, spiritual lives, and how we live out our faith.
We’ll read and meditate on three versions of Hebrews 12:1-2. Here is the version from The Inclusive Bible, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside everything that impedes us and the sin that so easily entangles us. Let us run with perseverance the race laid out for us. Let us not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection. For the sake of the joy to come, Jesus endured the cross, heedless of its shame, and now sits at the right of God’s throne.”
We’ll reflect together on our responses to the scripture and these reflection questions:
What does being surrounded by a cloud of witness mean to you? What does it look like? What does it feel like? Or does a cloud of witnesses exist in your life?
What does it feel like to consider Jesus as a spiritual ancestor?
How might this framing impact your theology, your spiritual life, or how you live out your faith?
How might this framing impact your conceptualization of Jesus’s life and ministry?
As with every Gathering, we gather to collaboratively reimagine and liberate scripture in ways that help us embody our faith so that our diverse selves and contexts become a living part of the radical love and justice of the Gospel. We join together in music, relational storytelling ritual, divine reading (lectio divina), group reflection, communion, and prayer.
